BEA WebLogic Collaborate runs on BEA WebLogic Server and provides a single-platform solution for the integration of customer, supplier, and partner business processes. Hence, it is a solution platform suitable for a community of trading partners running BEA WebLogic Server. BEA WebLogic Collaborate is organized in collaboration spaces (c-spaces). A c-space encompasses a registered set of trading partners. A trading partner can subscribe to specific roles (e.g. supplier, logistics provider) in specific conversation definitions.

BEA WebLogic Collaborate includes BEA WebLogic Process Integrator, BEA Systems' product suite supporting process automation. However, BEA WebLogic Process Integrator does not require BEA WebLogic Collaborate and can be licensed separately.

BEA WebLogic Process Integrator requires an application server to run on as a service. BEA WebLogic Server is the only supported application server. Thus, BEA WebLogic Process Integrator may be considered by companies that are committed to BEA Systems' product line or are intending to use BEA WebLogic Server as the foundation for their Business Process Integration System (BPIS).

BEA WebLogic Process Integrator is an integrated product suite, comprising

• "Studio", which is used by modelers and developers for creating and maintaining process models, and the development of functionality necessary to control process flow at run time and to integrate business services (applications). It also provides process management functionality, such as administration functions and monitoring. Process models and related information are stored in a relational database.</Paragraph>
• "Worklist", which is used by users who complete tasks at run time. The Worklist console lists work items (tasks) and allows users to work with tasks and workflows. For example, users can change the status of tasks and reassign tasks.
• A process engine (workflow engine). The process engine sits on top of BEA WebLogic Server and orchestrates the process execution at run time.

BEA WebLogic Process Integrator supports a predominantly declarative modeling and development approach. Process development and service integration can be accomplished without having to write procedural code. In that respect, adequately trained business analysts can also take over the developer role, which primarily involves defining actions that execute in the context of activities.

Application integration is supported by BEA Systems' eLink application integration product family. BEA Systems provides diverse adapters for popular application packages (ERP, CRM packages, etc.).
