Savvion BusinessManager (SBM) is a comprehensive suite of integrated components written in Java. Its predecessor version has been marketed under the name EBMS (e-Business Management System). SBM reflects significant enhancements over EBMS.

Savvion BusinessManager supports Web-based user interfaces throughout, be it user interfaces of business services (activity implementations) or user interfaces for administration tasks. Savvion BusinessManager supports wireless connectivity through BizMobile. Persons using wireless devices, such as mobile phones or Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) can participate in executing processes and can perform administrative tasks.

Savvion BusinessManager requires a Web server to run some of its components, which are implemented as Java servlets. It incorporates three servers: the process engine (BizLogic), the rule engine (BizPulse), and a data manager (BizStore). Activity implementations can interoperate with various J2EE-based application servers, including BEA System's WebLogic, and IBM's WebSphere, through adapters. SBM integrates with DBMS via JDBC.

One of the prominent components of Savvion BusinessManager is BizPulse, a rule engine, which processes rules that control the execution of process instances. In addition, rules monitor process instances and generate dynamic reports and alarms.

Savvion BusinessManager incorporates a framework which facilitates the development of Balanced Scorecard applications. Business rules control the collection of key performance indicator data, which are stored in infopads (two-dimensional tables).

BizLogic Designer and BizSolo Designer are tools used for process modeling and development. Using BizSolo Designer, developers can create sophisticated multi-page HTML-based user interfaces for activities (worksteps).

Savvion BusinessManager supports process integration at the business level. Processes can be distributed over intranets, extranets and the internet. Adapters are used to facilitate integration with external systems. Adapters can act like mediators between the process engine and an external system.

As our evaluation indicates, Savvion BusinessManager 3.0 is one of the leading products from a technology point of view, significantly enhancing productivity and responsiveness to changing market demands.
